Update: Suspect Arrested for Germantown 7-Eleven Armed Robbery – Tipster Helped Close This Case

For Immediate Release: Thursday, May 31, 2018

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – Major Crimes Division have charged Logan Stefon Lawson, age 21, of the 18400 block of Stone Hollow Drive in Germantown, with the May 19 armed robbery of the 7-Eleven convenience store located at 12861 Clopper Road.

On Saturday, May 19 at approximately 2:49 p.m., 5th District officers responded to the 7-Eleven for the report of an armed robbery that had just occurred.

The investigation by detectives revealed that the suspect entered the store displaying a handgun.  The suspect threatened an employee who was working behind the counter and demanded cash from the registers.  The suspect obtained currency from the business and fled from the 7-Eleven.

On May 21, detectives released surveillance video of the suspect to the media and public and asked for help in identifying him.  Investigators received multiple tips which led to the identification of Lawson as the suspect.  An MCP officer who was familiar with Lawson also identified Lawson as the robbery suspect.

A 5th District patrol officer noted that the suspect’s “Call of Duty” backpack (that can be seen in the video) was given to customers who pre-ordered the latest Call of Duty video game during a set time.  Detectives were able to confirm that Lawson pre-ordered the game and received the bag.

Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Lawson charging him with one count of armed robbery, one count of first-degree assault, and one count of the use of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

On May 25, Lawson was arrested at a Gaithersburg motel on the strength of the Montgomery County warrant.  Investigators located evidence from the robbery at the hotel.  Lawson is currently being held without bond.
