Detectives from Montgomery County Police Department - Major Crimes Division have charged Michael J. Suah, age 22, of the 11100 block of Georgia Avenue in Wheaton for two robberies of the PNC Bank located inside of the Giant Food grocery store at 2900 University Boulevard West in Wheaton.  The first bank robbery occurred on November 14, 2017 and the second robbery occurred on April 13, 2018.

On November 14, 2017, at approximately 2:18 p.m., 4th District officers responded to the PNC Bank for the report of a bank robbery.  The investigation by detectives revealed that the suspect entered the bank and handed a note to the teller demanding money.  The suspect obtained an undisclosed amount of cash and fled from the bank.

On November 15, 2017, detectives released a surveillance photograph of the suspect to the media and public and asked for help in identifying him.

On April 13, at approximately 7:03 p.m., 4th District officers responded to the same PNC Bank for the report of a bank robbery.  The investigation by detectives revealed that the suspect entered the bank and handed a note to the teller demanding money.  The suspect obtained an undisclosed amount of cash and fled from the bank.

On May 3, detectives released a surveillance photograph of the suspect to the media and public and asked for help in identifying him.

Through investigation, detectives determined that the same suspect had committed both robberies at that same PNC Bank.

On Tuesday, June 5 at approximately 10:57 a.m., a 4th District officer was conducting a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 11200 block of Georgia Avenue in Wheaton when he observed a subject walking in the area.  The officer immediately recognized that subject as matching that of the suspect’s description from the PNC Bank robberies.   The officer stopped that individual and identified him as Suah.

Suah was arrested and transported to the Public Safety Headquarters where he made statements to his involvement in the two bank robberies.

Suah was transported to the Central Processing Unit where he was charged with two counts of robbery and two counts of theft: $100 to under $1,500.  He was released after posting a $10,000 bond.
