Update: Victim's Identity Released in Undetermined Death in Wheaton

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department - Major Crimes Division and Collision Reconstruction Unit continue to investigate the undetermined death of an adult male who was located injured in the roadway of Huggins Drive in the Wheaton area on June 10, at approximately 10:01 p.m.

The victim was identified as Omar Rivas Cardenas. His birth year is 1966, but detectives have not yet confirmed the birth month and day. He resided in the 4100 block of Sampson Road in Silver Spring.

On June 10, 4th District officers and Montgomery County Fire & Rescue personnel responded to the 11800 block of Huggins Drive for the report of a person in the road.  First responders located the male and he was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.  Because it is still unclear how the victim sustained his injuries, Major Crimes and Collision Reconstruction Unit detectives continue to conduct a joint investigation.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy and ruled that the victim suffered trauma to the head and chest, but the manner of death has not yet been determined.
