Officers from the Montgomery County Police Department’s 6
th District have arrested and charged
Hector A. Pacheco, age 24, of the 12300 block of Barbara Road in Silver Spring, with destruction of property, assault, and resisting arrest after he was observed vandalizing a marked Montgomery County Police vehicle in Gaithersburg. Detectives from the 6th District Investigative Section have also charged Pacheco with the June 6 vandalism to a marked Montgomery County Police vehicle which also occurred in Gaithersburg.
On Monday, June 18 at approximately 3:26 p.m., an off-duty Montgomery County Police officer who was in the area of the 9800 block of Washingtonian Boulevard, was notified by a resident that a male was using a rock to break the passenger side window of a nearby Montgomery County Police cruiser. Witnesses, who had provided a description of the male, reported that he had walked toward a nearby shopping center. The off-duty officer located the suspect inside a nearby department store. The officer identified himself and the suspect fled from the officer and attempted to exit the store. On-duty officers, who had responded to assist the off-duty officer, located the male at the entrance to the store and attempted to take him into custody. The suspect, now identified as Pacheco, assaulted three on-duty officers before he was eventually taken into custody. The three officers who were assaulted sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene.
Pacheco was transported to the 6
th District Station where he was interviewed by detectives.
Investigators determined that Pacheco is the same suspect who vandalized a police vehicle on June 6, in the 15700 block of Mahogany Circle. That vandalism was captured on home video and on June 7, detectives released the video to the media and public and asked for the public’s help to identify the suspect.
Pacheco was charged with two counts of destruction of property, resisting arrest, and three counts of second-degree assault. He was released after posting a $5,000 bond.
