Detectives Investigate Now Fatal Collision Involving Motorcyclist

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a now fatal collision involving a motorcyclist that occurred yesterday afternoon.

On Friday, July 27 at approximately 1:35 p.m., 1st District officers and Fire and Rescue personnel responded to Shady Grove Road at Crabbs Branch Way for the report of a collision involving a vehicle and a motorcycle.

Preliminary investigation has indicated that the motorcyclist, operating a 2008 Suzuki 650 motorcycle, was traveling south on Shady Grove Road.  The driver of a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer was traveling north on Shady Grove Road and was attempting to make a left turn onto Crabbs Branch Way.  The motorcycle and vehicle collided in the intersection.

The motorcycle operator, identified as Michael Barchuk, age 55, of Cannon Drive in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.  His condition worsened at the hospital and he succumbed to his injuries yesterday evening.

The driver of the Trailblazer, identified as Eddie Johnson, age 30, of Lockwood Drive in Silver Spring, was not injured in the collision.
