Suspect Arrested for Rockville Rape

For Immediate Release: Thursday, August 2, 2018

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department - Special Victims Investigations Division (SVID) have arrested and charged Terrance D. Zimmerman, age 27, of Chesley Knoll Court in Gaithersburg, with the first-degree rape of an adult female victim in Rockville on Saturday, July 28.

Investigation by detectives has determined that the victim was standing outside of the Rockville Metro station located at 251 Hungerford Drive (Route 355) when she was approached by two unknown males. One of the males engaged the victim in conversation and the male and victim exchanged phone numbers.  The victim and suspect left the metro station and walked to the rear of a home on MacArthur Drive in Rockville, where the suspect produced a folding knife and placed it to the victim’s throat as he raped her.  The victim was able to run from the area when the suspect removed the knife from her neck.  The victim reported the rape to police on July 30.

Shortly after the rape, the victim received a phone call and text messages from the male suspect’s phone, which she did not answer.  Investigators were able to determine that the phone number from which the calls and texts were sent belonged to Zimmerman.  Investigators also obtained video surveillance from the Metro which captured the suspect now identified as Zimmerman walking away from the metro with the victim.

On August 1, Zimmerman was arrested at his residence in Gaithersburg.  At the time of his arrest, Zimmerman was wearing a hat that matched the description of the hat he is seen wearing in the metro surveillance video.  Zimmerman was interviewed by detectives and stated that he engaged in sexual activity with the victim.

Zimmerman was transported to the Central Processing Unit and is being held without bond.
