Update: Two Suspects Charged in Series of Residential Burglaries in Germantown; Tipster Helped Close This Case

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – 5th District Investigative Section have arrested and charged Marcus Daniel Whitmore, age 38, of an unconfirmed address, and Nancy Lopez, age 37, of the 1800 block of Greenwich Wood Drive in Silver Spring, with committing a series of residential burglaries that occurred in Germantown.

Between April 16 and April 23, Whitmore forced entry into five homes in Germantown and stole property, to include credit cards.  The following burglaries were reported to police:

  • April 16 – in the 12000 block of Stoney Bottom Road.
  • April 18 – in the 19000 block of Ridgecrest Drive.
  • April 18 - in the 12000 block of Stoney Bottom Road.
  • April 23 - in the 19000 block of Ridgecrest Drive.
  • April 23 – in the 19000 block of Gunnerfield Lane.
On May 15, detectives released a surveillance photograph of one of the suspects to the media and public and asked for help in identifying him.  Investigators received a tip which led to the identification of Whitmore as one of the suspects.  During the investigation, detectives learned that Lopez had pawned several items stolen from the burglaries at a pawn store in the Silver Spring area.

On June 11, Lopez was arrested on the strength of a Montgomery County arrest warrant charging her with four counts of first-degree burglary and theft-related offenses.  She was released after posting a $10,000 bond.

On August 7, Whitmore was arrested on the strength of a Montgomery County arrest warrant charging him with five counts of first-degree burglary and theft-related offenses.  He is currently being held without bond.
