Fatal Pedestrian Collision in Wheaton Investigated

Detectives with the Montgomery County Police - Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a fatal pedestrian collision that occurred this morning in Wheaton.

On Friday, August 24, at approximately 4:05 a.m., 4th District officers along with Montgomery County Fire and Rescue personnel responded to Georgia Avenue at Reedie Drive for a collision involving a pedestrian.  First responders located an adult male at that intersection with apparent collision-related trauma to his body.  He had succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the pedestrian was in the southbound lanes of Georgia Avenue, north of Reedie Drive, when he was struck by a blue, 2005 Ford Mustang.  The driver of the Mustang remained on the scene.

The pedestrian is identified as Mauricio Leonidas Correa *, 41 years old, of the 12500 block of Feldon Street in Silver Spring.  The driver of the vehicle is identified as Eric Thomas Correia, 21 years old, of the 13700 block of Lockdale Drive in Silver Spring.
