Update: Detectives Continue to Investigate Serious Collision in Derwood

Detectives from the Collision Reconstruction Unit continue to investigate a serious collision that occurred in Derwood last night.

On November 18 at approximately 10:09 p.m., officers from the 5th District and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service personnel responded to Muncaster Road in the area of Beechdale Court for a single-vehicle collision.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt was traveling southbound on Muncaster Road when for reasons still under investigation, it left the roadway and hit an embankment and rolled over.  Further assessment of the scene revealed that the passenger of the Cobalt was ejected from the car during the collision.  Investigators believe that a dark-colored Ford Mustang may have been involved in some manner with the collision.  Investigators are seeking to speak with the driver of the dark-colored Ford Mustang.

The driver of the Cobalt has been identified as 24-year-old Mario Antonio Jandres-Rivera of Ginger Court in Germantown.  Mr. Jandres-Rivera was transported to a local hospital where he is reported to be in stable condition.

The passenger of the Cobalt has been identified as 23-year-old Oscar Eduardo Rivas-Macal of Washington Grove Lane in Gaithersburg.  Mr. Rivas-Macal was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
