Detectives Investigate Fatal Pedestrian-Involved Collision in Gaithersburg

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department-Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal collision involving a pedestrian that occurred this morning in Gaithersburg.

At approximately 6:44 a.m., 6th District officers, Gaithersburg police officers, and Fire and Rescue Services personnel responded to South Summit Avenue at Wells Avenue for the report of a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that a 2011 Nissan Rogue was traveling north on South Summit Avenue.  A 52-year-old female pedestrian was crossing South Summit Avenue at Wells Avenue in an easterly direction when she was struck by the Rogue.  The Rogue left the collision scene but the driver returned a short time later.

The pedestrian succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

The driver of the Rogue is identified as Abidemi Etabuno D Udah, age 29, of McCausland Place in Gaithersburg.  She was not injured in the collision.

The pedestrian is identified as Li Zhang of Settlers Landing Way in North Potomac.
