Detectives Investigate Fatal Pedestrian-Involved Collision in Bethesda

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department-Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal collision involving a pedestrian that occurred tonight in Bethesda.

At approximately 5:30 p.m., 2nd District officers and Fire and Rescue Services personnel responded to Old Georgetown Road at Kingswood Road for the report of a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee had exited westbound Interstate 495 (I-495) and was traveling north on Old Georgetown Road.  A 74-year-old female pedestrian was crossing northbound Old Georgetown Road at Kingswood Road when she was struck by the Grand Cherokee.

The adult female pedestrian was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.  She succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.

The driver of the Grand Cherokee is identified as Sheikh Shehzad Parviz, age 45, of Bells Mill Road in Bethesda.  He was not injured in the collision.

The pedestrian is identified as Dona Cicy H Amarasekara of Rollins Avenue in Rockville.
