Update: Detectives Investigate Serious Pedestrian Collision with Police Vehicle in Wheaton

Detectives continue to investigate the serious pedestrian collision with a Montgomery County Police vehicle that occurred last night.

On Thursday, December 6, 2018, at approximately 9:27 p.m., officers from the 4th District along with Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services personnel responded to Georgia Avenue in the area of Blueridge Avenue for a pedestrian collision involving a marked, Montgomery County Police vehicle.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2016 Ford Taurus, marked police vehicle, was traveling southbound on Georgia Avenue in the area of Blueridge Avenue when it became involved in a collision with an adult male pedestrian in the roadway.  The officer driving the police vehicle has been identified as Officer Fritz Calderon, assigned to the 4th District Station.  The officer was on routine patrol and the emergency equipment on the vehicle was not activated at the time of the collision.  The pedestrian was not within a crosswalk when the collision occurred.

Responding officers provided immediate life-saving aid to the pedestrian prior to the arrival of Fire & Rescue Services personnel.

The pedestrian, identified as Ronald De Jesus Ramirez Ramos, age 21, of Wheaton, was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries but is expected to survive.
