February 10 Pedestrian Collision in Montgomery Village Now Fatal

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) continue to investigate a now-fatal pedestrian collision that occurred on February 10 in Montgomery Village. The pedestrian, identified as Tam Minh Pham, age 69, of the 19600 block of Club Lake Drive in Gaithersburg was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. Today, February 28, Pham succumbed to his injuries at the hospital today.

On Sunday, February 10 at approximately 5:47 p.m., 6th District officers and fire and rescue personnel responded to the intersection of Montgomery Village Avenue at Midcounty Highway for the report of a serious collision involving a pedestrian.

The preliminary investigation by 6th District officers revealed that a 2002 Ford Escape was turning from southbound Montgomery Village Avenue onto eastbound Midcounty Highway, when for reasons still under investigation, the Ford Escape collided with Pham who was crossing Midcounty Highway.

The driver of the Ford Escape, identified as Michael Dereje Habte, age 19, of the 17000 block of Amity Drive in Derwood, was not injured in the collision.

This collision remains under investigation. Investigators are attempting to determine if Pham was in a marked crosswalk at the time of this collision. Detectives are also attempting to determine the color of the traffic signals and the pedestrian signals at the intersection of Montgomery Village Avenue and Midcounty Highway at the time of this collision.
