Two Suspects Charged in November 2013 Aspen Hill Homicide; Third Suspect Identified

For Immediate Release: Thursday, March 21, 2019

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division, Cold Case Section have charged Trevon Derick Davis, age 28, of the 600 block of Romsford Drive in Hyattsville, and Bryan Donte Byrd, age 28, of the 3000 block of 25th Street in Northeast, Washington, D.C., with first-degree murder for the November 6, 2013 homicide of 34-year-old Alexander Benson Buie.

Investigators have also obtained an arrest warrant related to Buie’s murder that charges Vaughn Darvel Bellamy, age 28, of the 18700 block of Roxbury Road in Hagerstown, with first-degree murder, armed robbery, and first-degree burglary. Bellamy is currently incarcerated at the Maryland Correctional Institution located in Hagerstown, for an unrelated homicide that occurred in 2014.  Bellamy has yet to be served with the Montgomery County arrest warrant.

On November 6 at approximately 10:50 p.m., 4th District officers responded for the report of a shooting inside a residence in the 13400 block of Grenoble Drive.  Officers arrived on the scene and found Buie suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.  Buie was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The preliminary investigation by detectives revealed that three suspects entered the residence by knocking on the front door and then forcing their way inside.  At least one suspect was armed with a handgun.  The suspects confronted three adult males in the home, one of whom was Buie.  A struggle ensued and Buie was shot.  The suspects then fled the residence.  Neither of the other two victims was injured.

During the investigation, detectives identified Davis, Byrd, and Bellamy as the suspects in Buie’s homicide.  Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Davis and Byrd charging them with first-degree murder, first-degree burglary, and armed robbery.

On March 6, 2019, Byrd was arrested in Washington, D.C., on the strength of the Montgomery County arrest warrant.   Byrd was extradited to Montgomery County on March 13.  He was released after posting a $150,000 bond.

On March 20, 2019, Davis was arrested in Washington, D.C. on the strength of the Montgomery County arrest warrant.  He remains incarcerated in the District of Columbia pending extradition to Montgomery County.

Bond information for Davis will be available once he has been extradited to Montgomery County.  Bond information for Bellamy will be available once he has been served with the Montgomery County arrest warrant.
