Detectives Investigate Fatal Collision in Silver Spring

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police - Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a fatal collision that occurred on March 4, 2019, in Silver Spring.

On March, 4, at approximately 3:43 p.m., officers from the 3rd District along with Fire & Rescue personnel responded to the intersection of Cherry Hill Road and Prosperity Drive for the report of a personal injury collision.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2005 Toyota Corolla, was attempting to turn left from northbound Cherry Hill Road on to Prosperity Drive, when for reasons still under investigation, it was struck by a 2003 Volvo XC90, which was traveling southbound on Cherry Hill Road.

The driver of the Toyota is identified as Regina Ablorh, age 50, and the passenger is identified as Augustina Okwadi, age 71; both of Beltsville.  Ablorh and Okwadi were transported to local hospitals with serious injuries.  Augustina Okwadi succumbed to her injuries on April 27, 2019.

The driver of the Volvo is identified as Herbert Oswaldo Baires Chavez, age 25, of College Park.  Chavez was transported to a local hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
