Update: Suspect Arrested for Gaithersburg Bank Robbery; Tipster Helped Close This Case

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division have charged Jonathan David Goff, age 36, of the 16500 block of St. John Road in Rineyville, Kentucky, for the June 8 armed robbery of the TD Bank located at 15830 Shady Grove Road in Gaithersburg.

On Saturday, June 8, at approximately 1:28 p.m., 6th District officers responded to the TD Bank for the report of a robbery.  The investigation by detectives revealed that the suspect approached a teller, passed a note, and announced the robbery.  The suspect demanded cash and implied that he was armed with a weapon.  The suspect obtained an undisclosed amount of currency and fled from the bank.

On June 20, investigators released a surveillance photograph of the suspect to the media and public and asked for help in identifying him.

On June 21, detectives received a tip which led to the identification of Goff as the suspect.

On June 22, investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Goff charging him with one count of armed robbery.

On Saturday, June 29, Goff was arrested on the strength of the Montgomery County arrest warrant near Bloomington, Illinois by members of the United States Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force and local law enforcement agencies.

Goff remains incarcerated in Bloomington, Illinois pending extradition to Montgomery County.   At this time, a mugshot for Goff is not available.

The police department thanks the tipster who provided the information that led to Goff’s identification and arrest.
