May 31 Pedestrian Collision in Gaithersburg Now Fatal

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a now-fatal pedestrian collision that occurred on May 31 in Gaithersburg. The pedestrian, identified as Michael Joseph Roberts, age 60, of the 20000 block of Dunstable Circle in Germantown, was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. On July 5, Roberts succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.  Recently, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) ruled that Roberts’ death was a result of the injuries he sustained in the collision.

On May 31, at approximately 9:24 p.m., 6th District officers, Gaithersburg Police Department officers, and Fire and Rescue personnel responded to the intersection of -Frederick Road (Route 355) at Travis Avenue for the report of a serious collision involving a pedestrian.

The preliminary investigation by officers revealed that Roberts was crossing northbound North Frederick Avenue just prior to the intersection of Travis Lane.  A 2011 Toyota RAV4 was traveling northbound on North Frederick Avenue approaching Travis Lane when for reasons still under investigation, the Toyota collided with Roberts.

The driver of the Toyota, identified as Fabiola Alejandra Perez, age 40, of the 19600 block of Crystal Rock Drive in Germantown, was not injured in the collision.
