Update: Serious Pedestrian Collision in Gaithersburg Now Fatal

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) continue to investigate a now fatal collision involving a pedestrian that occurred on Wednesday, September 11th.  The pedestrian, identified as 78-year-old Eleanor Cohen of Booth Street in Gaithersburg, succumbed to her injuries this afternoon (September 16th) at an area hospital.

On Wednesday, September 11th at approximately 10:20 a.m., 6th district officers, Gaithersburg Police Department officers, and Fire & Rescue personnel responded to a pedestrian-involved collision that had just occurred in the area of the LA Fitness gym located at 314 Copley Place.

Preliminary investigation by CRU detectives revealed that a 2017 GMC Sierra Denali was attempting to turn left onto Copley Place after exiting the Harris Teeter grocery store parking lot.  Cohen had exited the LA Fitness and was attempting to cross Copley Place in the direction of the Starbucks coffee shop when she was struck by the vehicle.  Cohen was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
