Detectives Investigate Fatal Pedestrian-Involved Collision in Silver Spring Area

Detectives from the Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a fatal pedestrian-involved collision that occurred last night in the Silver Spring area.

On Sunday, October 13, at approximately 7:40 p.m., a 3rd District officer was flagged down by a resident who reported that a pedestrian had just been struck at the intersection of University Boulevard East and Seek Lane.  Responding officers and Fire and Rescue personnel located the pedestrian deceased at the scene.  He is identified as Julio Vargas Valerio, age 67, of the 8600 block of Garland Avenue in Takoma Park.

Preliminary investigation by detectives revealed that Valerio was crossing University Boulevard East from north to south at Seek Lane when, for reasons still under investigation, he was struck by a 2006 Subaru Outback which was traveling east on University Boulevard East.   After being struck by the Outback, Valerio was then struck by a 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse which was also traveling east on University Boulevard East.

The driver of the Outback is identified as 74-year-old George Harry Dove of Medwick Drive in Hyattsville.  Dove was not injured in the collision.

The driver of the Eclipse is identified as 40-year-old Eulalio R. Lopez Vail of the 1000 block of University Boulevard East in Silver Spring.  Lopez Vail and two adult passengers in his vehicle were not injured in the collision.
