Detectives Investigate Single-Vehicle Fatal Collision in Rockville

Update: October 26 at 6:00 p.m.  - The front seat passenger, now identified as Janice Luk Chan, age 72, of the 3800 block of Cooper Lane in Hyattsville, succumbed to her injuries at a local hospital. 

Detectives with the Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a single-vehicle fatal collision that occurred late this morning in Rockville.

On Saturday, October 26 at approximately 11:36 a.m., 1st District officers, Rockville City Police Department officers, and Fire and Rescue personnel responded to the 200 block of North Washington Street for the report of a serious collision that had just occurred.  Responding officers located a gray 2016 Toyota Corolla that had struck a tree.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the Corolla was traveling eastbound on Beall Avenue and turned right onto northbound North Washington Street.  For reasons still under investigation, the Corolla left the roadway after making the right turn onto North Washington Street and struck a tree.

The male driver, identified as Cheung Foo Chan, age 80, of the 3800 block of Cooper Lane in Hyattsville, was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.

A  front-seat passenger, identified as Janice Luk Chan, was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.  She later succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.

The rear seat passenger, identified as Man Kei Tam Yuen, age 83, of the 6300 block of Seabrook Road in Seabrook, Maryland, was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.  She succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
