Update: Suspect Arrested for Burglarizing Church; Suspect Damaged Over $10,000 Worth of Property

Detectives from the 2nd District have arrested Jose A. Obando-Segura, age 30, of Magellan Avenue in Rockville, for the October 2 burglary of the Chevy Chase United Methodist Church located at 7001 Connecticut Avenue.  Obando-Segura has been charged with second-degree burglary, malicious destruction of property, and theft.

During the investigation, detectives released surveillance video of the suspect to the public and local law enforcement agencies.  Rockville City police officers provided MCP investigators with the suspect's identity.

On October 28, investigators served Obando-Segura, who was being held at the Central Processing Unit on an unrelated charge, with a criminal warrant for committing the burglary.

Church employees reported the damage to the church caused by Obando-Segura to be approximately $10,400.
