Detectives Investigate Fatal Pedestrian-Involved Collision in Rockville

Update (11/13/2019): The pedestrian is identified as Kankanige Chandralatha Perera, age 77, of Aspen Hill Road in Rockville.

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police-Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a fatal pedestrian-involved collision that occurred this morning in the Twinbrook area of Rockville.

On Wednesday, November 6 at approximately 7:21 a.m., officers from the 1st District, the Rockville City Police Department, and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue personnel responded to the 2000 block of McAuliffe Drive for a report of a serious collision involving a pedestrian.

Preliminary investigation has determined that a 2004 Chevrolet Suburban was traveling eastbound on McAuliffe Drive. For reasons still under investigation, the vehicle struck an adult female pedestrian, who was attempting to cross McAuliffe Drive.  The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

The driver of the Suburban is identified as 54-year-old Sylvia McNickle of Linthicum Street in Rockville.

The pedestrian will be identified once family notifications have been made.
