October 17 Collision in Twinbrook Area Now Fatal

Detectives from the Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a now-fatal collision that occurred on October 17 in the Twinbrook area involving a City of Rockville Department of Public Works refuse truck and a City of Rockville Public Works employee.

On October 17 at approximately 9:24 a.m., 1st District officers, Rockville City Police Department officers, and Fire and Rescue personnel responded to the 1300 block of Ardennes Avenue for the report of a serious collision that had just occurred.

The preliminary investigation by detectives revealed that the public works employee, identified as Jesse William Freeman, age 45, of Hibiscus Street in Taneytown, was riding on the back of a 2014 Mack refuse truck while making refuse pickups on Ardennes Avenue.  For reasons still under investigation, he was ejected from the truck.

Freeman was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.  He succumbed to his injuries at the hospital on October 28.

The driver of the truck, identified as David Cole, age 51, of Rothgeb Drive in Rockville, was not injured.
