Detectives Investigating Sexual Assault in Gaithersburg Area

Detectives from the Special Victims Investigations Division (SVID) continue to investigate the November 9 sexual assault of an adult female that occurred in the Gaithersburg area.

On Saturday, November 9, at approximately 6:32 p.m., 6th District officers and Gaithersburg Police Department officers responded to a paved footpath on Longdraft Road near Clopper Lake for the report of a sexual assault that had just occurred.

The investigation by detectives determined that the victim was on the footpath when the suspect pulled her into the woodline and sexually assaulted her.  A witness who was on the path heard the victim scream and came to her aid.  The suspect then fled on foot.

The suspect is described as a black male who is approximately 30 years old.  He is approximately 6-feet tall and was wearing a black baseball cap, black sweatpants, a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt, and white shoes.   The suspect also had a large scar on his face going from his upper cheekbone to his mouth.

Detectives are asking anyone who has information about the suspect or who may have information about this sexual assault to call the Special Victims Investigations Division at 240-773-5400.  Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477). Crime Solvers will pay a cash reward of up to $10,000 for information provided to their line that leads to an arrest and/or indictment for this crime.
