Suspect Arrested for Second-Degree Rape in Silver Spring

For Immediate Release: Friday, November 15, 2019

Detectives from the Montgomery Department of Police – Special Victims Investigations Division (SVID) have arrested and charged Demitrious Harriott, age 24, of the 8500 block of 16th Street, with the second-degree rape and robbery of an adult female that occurred early this morning at an apartment building in Silver Spring.

Today, November 15, at approximately 2:55 a.m., officers responded to the report of a sexual assault that had just occurred at an apartment building in the 8500 block of 16th Street.  Investigation by SVID detectives has determined that the victim and Harriott (known to the victim as "Johnny") began talking via a dating application.  They arranged to meet at Harriott's residence (which he told the victim was located on 16th Street).  At approximately 2:30 this morning, the victim met Harriott at the apartment building.  As the victim and Harriott walked down a hallway, Harriott grabbed the victim and pushed her into a stairwell.  Harriott sexually assaulted the victim and physically assaulted her to include slamming her face into a concrete wall.  Harriott stole the victim's cell phone and fled.

Through investigation, Harriott, who is known to frequently stay at an apartment in the building, was developed as a suspect.  Harriott was arrested at that apartment at approximately 6:15 this morning.

Harriott was transported to the Central Processing Unit and charged with second-degree rape, robbery, and second-degree assault.  He is being held without bond.
