For Immediate Release: Tuesday, May 12, 2020

NOTE: On May 12, 2020, at 5:45 p.m.- the homicide victim's age was amended to 23-year-old.

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division continue to investigate the homicide of an adult female that occurred yesterday afternoon in the White Oak area.

Investigators have charged 63-year-old Biet Van Tran, of the 900 block of Balmoral Drive in White Oak, with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of first-degree assault.  Tran is currently being held without bond.

On Monday, May 11, at approximately 3:22 p.m., the Emergency Communications Center received a 9-1-1 call from a resident in the 900 block of Balmoral Drive reporting a possible stabbing at a neighboring home.  3rd District officers who arrived at the scene located two adult female victims and an adult male victim inside a home on Balmoral Drive.  The female victims were suffering from injuries related to a stabbing and the male victim was suffering from assault-related injuries.  Tran was located at the scene and immediately arrested.

A 23-year-old female victim was declared deceased at the scene.  The second female victim was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.  The male victim was treated by Fire and Rescue personnel at the scene for his injuries.

The preliminary investigation determined that the three victims are from out-of-state and had been staying at that residence on Balmoral Drive for the past few days.

Investigators also continue to work to locate the homicide victim’s family members.  Her identity will be released once her family has been notified.
