Update: Pedestrian Hit and Run Collision in Aspen Hill Now Fatal: Detectives Continue to Seek Information About Striking Vehicle-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Officers from the 4th District continue to investigate a serious pedestrian hit-and-run collision that occurred on Tuesday, August 11, in the Aspen Hill area. The Police Department is releasing photographs of the striking vehicle and is asking anyone with information about the striking vehicle to come forward to the Department.
On August 11 at approximately 10:09 a.m., 4th District officers responded to a pedestrian-involved collision on Bel Pre Road at London Lane. Preliminary investigation revealed that 62-year-old Robert Lawrence of Silver Spring had for reasons still under investigation, stopped his vehicle, a white box truck, in the far right lane of westbound Bel Pre Road just prior to London Lane. Lawrence was outside of his vehicle on the driver's side when he was struck by a vehicle travelling west on Bel Pre Road. The striking vehicle, described by a witness as possibly a light-colored pickup truck, fled the scene.
Lawrence was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.
Officers obtained video of the striking vehicle that was captured by an area surveillance camera. The striking vehicle may be a two-door Ford F-250 or F-350 with a truck bed cover.
