Detectives Investigate Single-Vehicle Fatal Collision in Gaithersburg

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a single-vehicle fatal collision that occurred early this morning in Gaithersburg.

On Saturday, August 15, at approximately 4:41 am, 6th District officers, Gaithersburg City officers, and Fire & Rescue personnel responded to Saybrooke Oaks Boulevard and Midcounty Highway for the report of a collision.

Preliminary investigation by detectives has determined that a 2016 BMW 328i was traveling west on Saybrooke Oaks Boulevard when for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle left the roadway, struck a sign and then a tree.  The car became fully engulfed with fire with the driver still inside.  The two passengers in the vehicle exited the vehicle and were located by responding officers in the area of the collision.

The driver is identified as 26-year-old Jorge Arturo Castro of Bluhill Road in Silver Spring. Castro was declared deceased at the scene.

The two female passengers, age 22 and 25, were transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.
