Suspect Charged with Second-Degree Rape; Possibility of Additional Victims a Concern

Detectives from the Montgomery Department of Police – Special Victims Investigations Division (SVID) have charged Douglas Clifton Stewart, age 35, of the 6200 block of Wilmette Drive, in Burke, Virginia, with the second-degree rape of an adult female that occurred on August 23 in Olney.

On August 23, the victim reported that she had been sexually assaulted.  SVID detectives began an investigation.

Detectives determined that the victim and Stewart, who the victim knew as "Clifton", began talking via a dating application on August 22.  They arranged to meet at a public parking lot located in Olney.

In the evening of August 23, the victim and Stewart met at the parking lot.  Both the victim and Stewart exited their vehicles and Stewart offered to drive the victim to get food.  As Stewart drove he sexually and physically assaulted the victim.  He then returned to the parking lot where they had met and shoved the victim out of the vehicle.

Through investigation, Stewart was developed as a suspect.  A warrant was issued for Stewart's arrest, charging him with second-degree rape, second-degree assault, and a fourth-degree sexual offense..  At approximately 9:15 yesterday morning (September 16), Stewart was arrested at his home.

Stewart was transported to the Fairfax County (Virginia) Detention Center and is awaiting extradition to Montgomery County.

Detectives are concerned Stewart may have sexually assaulted other victims.  Anyone who believes he/she was victimized by Stewart is asked to call the Special Victims Investigations Division at 240-773-5400.
