Suspect Arrested for Downtown Wheaton Second-Degree Rape; Possibility of Additional Victims a Concern

For Immediate Release: Thursday, October 1, 2020

Detectives from the Montgomery Department of Police – Special Victims Investigations Division (SVID) have charged Christopher Xavier Green, age 36, of Upton Drive in Kensington, with the second-degree rape of an adult female that occurred on September 8 in Wheaton.

On Tuesday, September 8 at approximately 11:40 pm, 4th District officers responded to the report of a sexual assault that had just occurred in the Wheaton Central Business District (CBD). SVID detectives were notified and began an investigation.

Detectives determined that the victim was walking in the area of an amphitheater located at Georgia Avenue and Reedie Drive when she noticed a male, later identified as Green, walking toward her. The victim attempted to walk in another direction but Green grabbed her upper arm and began to inappropriately touch her.  Green forced the victim to a nearby secluded area and raped her.  The victim was able to break free from Green and run away.

Through investigation, fourth district patrol officers and SVID detectives developed Green as a suspect.  On September 17, the Montgomery County Police Crime Laboratory received notice that the suspect's DNA taken from the scene matched the DNA of Christopher Green.

A warrant was issued for Green's arrest, charging him with second-degree rape and second-degree assault.  At approximately 9:30 p.m. on September 18, Green was arrested in the area of University Boulevard West and Grandview Avenue.

Green was transported to the Central Processing Unit and is being held without bond.

Detectives are concerned that Green may have sexually assaulted other victims.  Anyone who believes he/she was victimized by Green is asked to call the Special Victims Investigations Division at 240-773-5400.
