Detectives Investigate Fatal Collision Involving Pedestrian in Rockville

***Update: November 6, 2020: Jose Amaya Flores' family has been located. 
Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal collision involving a pedestrian that occurred this morning in Rockville.  

On Monday, November 2, at approximately 5:55 a.m., 6th District officers and Fire and Rescue personnel responded to Shady Grove Road at Briardale Road for the report of a personal injury collision.   

Preliminary investigation revealed that the pedestrian, Jose Amaya Flores, age 59, of an unknown address, was crossing northbound Shady Grove Road in a westerly direction when he was struck by a 2017 Honda Ridgeline traveling north on Shady Grove Road.  A 2014 Toyota Prius, also traveling northbound on Shady Grove Road, then struck the rear of the Honda Ridgeline.  The Honda Ridgeline was driven by Matthew Taylor, age 54, of Gaithersburg, and the Toyota Prius was driven by Sandra Valladares, age 46, oLaytonsville. 

Amaya Flores was pronounced deceased at the scene.  Valladares was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.  Taylor was not injured in the collision.  

***Detectives have been unable to locate any of Amaya Flores' family members and are asking anyone with information on possible family members of Amaya Flores to please call detectives at: 240-773-6620.
