Detectives Investigate Single-Vehicle Fatal Collision in Layhill Area

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a single-vehicle fatal collision that occurred early this morning in the Layhill area.

At approximately 1:08 a.m., this morning (Sunday, November 22) 4th District officers and Fire & Rescue personnel responded to Norbeck Road at Whitehaven Road for the report of a serious collision.

Preliminary investigation by detectives has determined that a 2006 Mazda6 was traveling west on Norbeck Road near Whitehaven Road.  For reasons still under investigation, the Mazda6 left the roadway and struck several trees.

The driver and sole occupant of the Mazda6 is identified as 23-year-old Stefano Jorge Fernandes of MacDowell Street in Rockville.  Fernandes was pronounced deceased at the scene.
