2020 Holiday Alcohol Task Force Enforcement – Week Five

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, December 23, 2020

Holiday Alcohol Task Force officers are devoting their full-time and attention to detecting alcohol-related offenses this holiday season.

During this past week's enforcement (evening of December 16, 17, 18, and 19):

  • task force officers arrested 24 people for driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs (DUI).*
  • 11 of the 24 people arrested for DUI were arrested for DUI after being involved in a collision.

During the past five weeks of enforcement:

  • task force officers arrested a total of 176 people for DUI
  • 37 of the 176 people arrested for DUI were arrested for DUI after being involved in a collision.

Details of one collision involving driver who was DUI:

On December 17 at approximately 8:48 p.m., in the area of McKnew Road and Cedar Tree Drive in Burtonsville, a Toyota Highlander, in a head-on collision, struck a Honda Accord stopped at a stop sign.  The Highlander then continued and struck a parked vehicle.  The 48-year-old female driver fled from her vehicle.  A K9 tracked the driver to her residence, which was nearby. The driver was located at her home and arrested for DUI and hit-and-run offenses.

*It should be noted that the above arrests include only those arrests made by task force officers and do not include the additional arrests made by patrol officers in the performance of their duties.  Therefore, the overall number of DUI arrests made by officers during this time period is higher.

**For future reference, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a restriction in place that bars and restaurants were closed for dine-in (carry-out only) during this week of enforcement.
