Forty-Four-Year-Old Charged in Old MacDonald Road Homicide

For Immediate Release: Friday, December 8, 2023

Gaithersburg, MD – 44-year-old Ronald Thomas Dwyer II has been arrested and charged with the homicide of 60-year-old Charles Claggett.  

On Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at approximately 8:10 a.m., officers from the Gaithersburg Police Department responded to the 200 block of Old MacDonald Road for the report of a man, located outside of an apartment building, who was not conscious or breathing. Despite lifesaving measures by Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel, Claggett was pronounced dead at the scene.  

 

Claggett has been transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) in Baltimore to determine the cause and manner of death.  At this time, the results have not been finalized. 

 

Through the course of the investigation, Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes detectives identified Dwyer as the suspect in the death investigation.  

 

On Wednesday, December 6, 2023, Dwyer was arrested on an open warrant for an unrelated incident. 

 

Dwyer, who has no known address, was transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit on the strength of his open warrant and has been charged with first degree murder and robbery. He is currently being held without bond.
