Gaithersburg, MD – Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal hit-and-run collision that occurred on Monday, June 3, 2024.
At approximately 1:17 p.m., Takoma Park Police officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the 1100 block of University Blvd. E. for the report of a man lying in the roadway with head injuries.
Officers located the victim in the eastbound lanes of University Blvd. E and the victim was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The Office of the Medical Examiner Washington, D.C. conducted an autopsy and determined that the injuries the victim sustained were likely caused by a vehicle.
The preliminary investigation by detectives has determined that a westbound vehicle hit the pedestrian and fled the scene on Lebanon St. into Prince George’s County.
The suspect vehicle is described as a 1999-2006 black Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Extended Cab pickup truck. Any damage to the vehicle would be found on the left side and would appear to be minor.
Detectives are still in the process of identifying the identity of victim.
The victim is described as a Hispanic male, 30 to 40-year-old, 5-feet, 9-inches tall, 150 pounds, with a short goatee, wearing a light blue t-shirt and dark blue sweatpants.
This is an active and ongoing investigation.
