For Immediate Release: Monday, June 17, 2024
At approximately 1:17 a.m., Takoma Park Police officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the 1100 block of University Boulevard East for the report of a man lying in the roadway with head injuries.
Officers located the victim in the eastbound lanes of University Boulevard East, and the victim was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The decedent has been identified as 42-year-old Candido Noe Rojas Rojas, of Takoma Park.
The Office of the Medical Examiner Washington, D.C. conducted an autopsy and determined that the injuries the victim sustained were likely caused by a vehicle.
The preliminary investigation by detectives has determined that a westbound vehicle hit the pedestrian and fled the scene on Lebanon St. into Prince George’s County.
After reviewing additional video evidence, detectives have obtained a better description of the suspect’s vehicle, which is believed to be a 2014-2017, dark colored, possibly black, Chevrolet Silverado 1500. Any damage to the vehicle would be found on the left side and would appear to be minor.
This is an active and ongoing investigation.
