Adult Male Arrested in Connection to Takoma Park Hit-and-Run Fatal Collision

Gaithersburg, MD - Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) have arrested and charged 34-year-old Efrain Diaz Romero, of Silver Spring, with the death of 42-year-old Candido Noe Rojas Rojas, who died in a fatal hit-and-run collision on Monday, June 3, 2024.
 
The investigation by detectives revealed that Rojas Rojas was struck by a black Chevrolet Silverado traveling eastbound on University Boulevard East. After the collision, the Chevrolet left the scene.
 
Rojas Rojas was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.
 
During the course of the investigation, detectives located the Chevrolet and identified Diaz Romero as the suspect who killed Rojas Rojas with the Chevrolet.
 
Diaz Romero was transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where he was charged with failure to immediately return and remain at the scene of an accident involving death, and several other traffic related charges. He is being held without bond.
