Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich’s Statement on Passing of Thomas Trần

For Immediate Release: Tuesday 15 September

I was saddened by the news of Mr. Thomas Trần’s passing on Sept. 10.  Mr. Trần was a dedicated advocate for the Vietnamese community and worked tirelessly for three decades to assist immigrants of all backgrounds. His passing is a huge loss to Montgomery County and the State of Maryland.

Mr. Trần was the founding member of the Association of Vietnamese Americans (formerly the Maryland Vietnamese Mutual Association), which is the oldest Vietnamese American community-based organization in Maryland.  He also served as a member of the Governor's Commission on Asian Pacific American Affairs and as a member of the Montgomery County Asian Pacific American Advisory Group. Mr. Trần was a pillar of the community and will be greatly missed. I would like to extend my deepest sympathy to Mr. Trần’s family and friends during this time of mourning.
