Statement by County Executive Marc Elrich on the Death of Charlie Kirk

“On behalf of Montgomery County, I extend condolences to Charlie Kirk’s family and friends.
I did not share Mr. Kirk’s views. But in this country, people have the right to speak their mind without fear of violence—that principle is at the core of the First Amendment and our democracy.
This tragedy, along with yet another school shooting yesterday, is a grim reminder of the scourge of gun violence in our nation. We should be able to argue, organize, and debate without resorting to hate or violence. That is what civil discourse requires, and it is something I will always defend.”
