For Immediate Release: Tuesday 9 December
I want to congratulate Shebra Evans on her appointment to the County Council. I respect her focus on students, families, and the broader community. She brings experience to this role, particularly from her work leading the school board through some very difficult years.
Her knowledge of education policy and school system operations will be invaluable as we head into the FY27 budget, especially with the challenges MCPS is facing and the significant requests that will come before the Council. She understands the pressures on our classrooms, the needs of our educators and staff, and the expectations of families who want their children to succeed.
I also appreciate the work she did during the pandemic, coordinating food distribution and supporting families in crisis. That kind of hands-on experience matters. We are dealing with the impacts of federal cuts, uncertainty for our workforce, and continued demand for County services. Councilmember Evans has long-standing relationships with community partners and organizations across Montgomery County, and that will help strengthen the collaboration needed to navigate these challenges.
I look forward to working with her as she steps into this new role and continues her service to the people of Montgomery County.
