On Nov. 15, 2022, Council President Albornoz, Councilmember Rice and County Executive Elrich were joined today by Wagner Jackson, son of Arva Jackson, a beloved community advocate and civil rights champion, to present a proclamation for Arva Jackson Recognition Day.
Ms. Arva Jackson passed away in July 2022. She served on numerous boards and worked in many organizations to tackle health disparities in Montgomery County. She served as Co-Chair of the Fetal and Infant Mortality Review Board and was a highly valued member of the Community Action Team.
Ms. Jackson always looked for ways to improve the lives of children. She served on the Boards of the Primary Care Coalition, the Center for Adoption Support & Education, the Commission on Aging and was an early member of the Collaboration Council for Children, Youth and Families
In June 2019, Ms. Jackson received an African American Living Legend Award for her community service and advocacy in shaping African American culture in Montgomery County. Her efforts made Montgomery County a better place to live, and she is greatly missed.
