Honoring Project SAFE (Saving Families from Eviction) and the East County Eviction Prevention Collaboration
On July 22, 2025, Councilmember Kristin Mink presents a proclamation honoring the East County Eviction Prevention Collaboration. This powerful coalition came together to prevent over 300 East County neighbors from being evicted. The coalition included the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), the International Rescue Committee, Lutheran Social Services of the National Capital Area, Ethiopian Community Development Council, Inc., Muslim Community Center, Islamic Society of the Washington Area, and Project SAFE (Saving Families from Eviction).
Speakers included Christine Hong, chief of Services to End and Prevent Homelessness, DHHS; Tonia Chestnut representing the Enclave Tenant Association for Progressive Maryland; and Ilhan Cagri from Project SAFE.
