African Heritage Month

On Sept. 16, 2025, the Montgomery County Council held its fifth annual African Heritage Month commemoration hosted by Council Vice President Will Jawando and Council President Kate Stewart. The theme of this year’s event is “From the Continent to the County: Living the Legacy.” The commemoration included a Council proclamation and video highlighting community leaders including Dunnie Onasanya, Associate Artist, VisArts, Ben Diedhiou, Community Organizer Senegalese Association of the DMV, Selamawit Tefera, Owner of Sheger Spring Ethiopian Cafe.
