Press Releases - County Council

For Immediate Release: Thursday, March 5, 2020

ROCKVILLE, Md., March 5, 2020—The Montgomery County Council’s Transportation and Environment (T&E) Committee will host a public forum on Monday, March 9 at 7 p.m. to get feedback from residents on the county’s transportation priorities. The public forum will take place at the Council Office Building (100 Md. Ave.) in Rockville. The Montgomery County Council and the County Executive periodically send a joint letter to the Maryland Department of Transportation with county funding priorities for transportation projects that are unfunded. The T&E Committee consists of Councilmembers Tom Hucker (chair), Evan Glass and Hans Riemer.

Recommendations for this year’s state transportation priorities letter have been proposed by the County’s Planning Board and the Department of Transportation and comments have been received from some members of the Montgomery County Delegation in the Maryland General Assembly. You can see these comments, as well as the last state transportation priorities letter, here .

“As the most populous jurisdiction in Maryland, it is critical that Montgomery County receive its fair share of state funding from the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT),” said Council Vice President Tom Hucker. “We are hosting this public forum on our county’s transportation priorities to hear from our residents on what projects they believe deserve state funding.”

“Montgomery County must prioritize an equitable, sustainable and economically viable transportation network,” said Councilmember Evan Glass (At-Large). “It has been several years since we updated our transportation priorities, particularly with our increased focus on pedestrian safety and multi-modal transportation options.”

“We need the State of Maryland to be a good partner in our effort to make our streets safe, improve transit, and help our residents spend less time in traffic,” said Councilmember Hans Riemer. “This is a critical opportunity to hear from members of the community about what the state can do to help us meet those goals.”

Individuals wishing to speak at the public forum should sign up at https://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/COUNCIL/PHSignUp.html or you may call 240-777-7803. Those testifying will have three minutes to speak and 15 copies of written testimony must be provided.
