This week’s edition of En Sintonía features an interview with District 6 Councilmember Fani-González, who will provide an overview of the current Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 budget process and its ongoing deliberations. She will also emphasize the importance of resident engagement, encouraging community members to participate in upcoming public hearings scheduled for Monday, April 7, and Tuesday, April 8.

Additionally, as we transition into spring, Councilmember Fani-González will spotlight the largest environmental festival in District 6, the Montgomery County GreenFest, which will take place on April 26. Organized by the Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection, the event will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Marian Fryer Plaza in Wheaton.

Lastly, Councilmember Fani-González will highlight the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new carousel at Wheaton Regional Park, set for Friday, April 4 at 4 p.m. Montgomery Parks will celebrate the grand opening of the carousel on Saturday, April 5, by offering half-price rides on opening day. The carousel will operate on weekends through October, with extended hours on holidays and during Montgomery County Public Schools’ spring and summer breaks.

The show will continue to highlight Montgomery Recreation's fourth annual Prom Dress Giveaway event. Montgomery County high school students preparing for prom this year are invited to the Prom Couture Closet event at the Marilyn J. Praisner Community Recreation Center in Burtonsville on Saturday, April 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Any high school student with a valid school I.D. can select a free prom dress or suit, along with shoes and accessories, on a first-come, first-served basis. Students will have the opportunity to choose from both new and gently used items donated by community members. Ms. Berrios will share all the details.

The radio show will conclude with a conversation featuring Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) Officer Cortes, who will provide details about the Security Camera Expansion Program, including its requirements, application process and rebate offerings. Additionally, Officer Cortes will discuss the expansion of the MCPD Drone as First Responder Program to the Bethesda area, an initiative that has already shown positive outcomes in reinforcing public safety. Launched in November 2023, the Drone as First Responder Program is currently operational in the 3rd District (Downtown Silver Spring), 4th District (Wheaton/Glenmont), 6th District (Gaithersburg/Montgomery Village), and 2nd District (Bethesda). Since its launch, the program has completed more than 2,000 flights.

The Montgomery County Council and Radio America have entered a partnership that provides the Latino community with key information on issues and programs. The partnership also provides a forum for residents to express their views and ask questions. The partnership includes the weekly one-hour show each Friday on the Washington metropolitan area’s most popular Spanish language station.

Each week, the show features host Marcela Rodriguez, Council program manager and public information officer, and guests talking about important issues before the Council and provides information about programs offered by the County to help residents.
