Unofficial Winners in Council District Races:
Berliner (District 1), Rice (District 2), Katz (District 3);
Navarro (District 4) and Hucker (District 5)
 
County Executive Leggett Wins Third Term

Incumbent Democrats Marc Elrich, Nancy Floreen, George Leventhal and Hans Riemer were the unofficial winners in the Tuesday, Nov. 4, for the four at-large seats on the Montgomery County Council. Incumbents Councilmembers Roger Berliner (District 1), Craig Rice (District 2) and Nancy Navarro (District 4), all Democrats, were the unofficial winners in their respective district races. In the races for two open Council seats, Gaithersburg Mayor Sidney Katz (District 3) and State Delegate Tom Hucker (District 5), both Democrats, ran unopposed to win their first terms on the Council.

According to results from the Montgomery County Board of Elections, with all 259 precincts reporting, eight-year County Executive Ike Leggett (65.3 percent of the vote) was the unofficial winner for a third term over Republican Jim Shalleck (34.2 percent).

In Montgomery County, 38.9 percent of registered voters cast ballots in the general election. Absentee ballots will begin to be counted on Thursday, Nov. 6. Provisional ballots will be counted on Wednesday, Nov. 12. The results remain unofficial until certified by the Board of Elections on Friday, Nov. 14.

The unofficial results in the at-large Council race showed the following:
 Marc Elrich (D): 149,612 votes (17.12 percent)
Nancy Floreen (D): 147,705 (16.91 percent)
 George Leventhal (D): 140,165 (16.04 percent)
 Hans Riemer (D): 132,818 (15.2 percent)
 Shelly Skolnick (R): 76,010 (8.7 percent)
 Robert Dwer (R): 75,404 (8.63 percent)
 Chris Fiotes, Jr. (R): 68,179 (7.8 percent)
 Adol Owen-Williams, II (R): 62,227 (7.12 percent)
 Tim Willard (Green): 20,836 (2.38 percent)
 All Write-ins: 731 (0.08 percent)

The unofficial results in the District 1 race:
 Roger Berliner (D): 41,264 votes (68.29 percent)
 Jim Kirkland (R): 19,072 (31.56 percent)
 All Write-ins: 87 (0.14)

The unofficial results in the District 2 race:
 Craig Rice (D): 24,348 votes (59.65 percent)
 Dick Jurgenia (R): 16,418 (40.22 percent)
 All Write-ins: 55 (0.13 percent)

The unofficial results in the District 3 race:
 Sidney Katz (D): 34,082 votes (98.5 percent)
 All Write-ins: 520 (1.5 percent)

The unofficial results in the District 4 race:
 Nancy Navarro (D): 28,836 votes (64.55 percent)
 John O’Malley (R): 15,786 (35.34 percent)
 All Write-ins: 53 (0.12 percent)

The unofficial results in the District 5 race:
 Tom Hucker (D): 39,880 votes (98.66 percent)
 All Write-ins: 543 (1.34 percent)

The unofficial results in the County Executive race:
 Ike Leggett (D): 154,957 (65.3 percent)
 Jim Shalleck (R): 81,157 votes (34.2 percent)
 All Write-ins: 1,181 (0.5 percent)

In the race for State’s Attorney, Democrat John McCarthy (69.11 percent) defeated Republican Dan Gaskill (30.81 percent). Clerk of the Circuit Court Barbara Meiklejohn, Sheriff Darren Popkin and Register of Wills Joseph Griffin all won without opposition.
