Update: Suspect in Piney Branch Stabbing to be Charged with First Degree Murder

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police - Major Crimes Division are continuing to investigate a stabbing that occurred on June 19 on Piney Branch Road in Silver Spring.

On June 19, the suspect, Ulises A. Blanco-Melgar, age 31, of the 7300 block of 18th Avenue in Hyattsville, was charged with one count of attempt first degree murder, one count of first degree assault, and one count of second degree assault.

The victim in this incident, now identified as Tomas Herrera Batres, age 49, of the 8200 block of Piney Branch Road, succumbed to his injuries on June 23.

An arrest warrant has now been obtained charging Blanco-Melgar with one count of first degree murder.  Blanco-Melgar currently remains in custody on the June 19 charges where he will be served with the arrest warrant for murder.
