Update: Rockville Pedestrian Collision Now Fatal

Detectives with the Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) continue to investigate a now fatal collision involving a pedestrian that occurred in Rockville on December 6.  The pedestrian, Esther Erestain Contreras, age 63, of Beatrice Court in Fort Washington, succumbed to her injuries yesterday evening.

On Tuesday, December 6 at approximately 5:41 p.m., 1st District officers, Rockville City officers, and Fire and Rescue personnel responded to the intersection of Chapman Avenue and Bouic Avenue for the report of a serious collision.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that a 2013 Toyota Corolla, driven by Katharine Cowgill Minker, age 57, of the 13400 block of Tangier Place in Rockville, was traveling north on Chapman Avenue.  Esther Erestain Contreras was crossing Chapman Avenue in an eastern direction in the area of the marked crosswalk at Bouic Avenue when she was struck by the Toyota.  Minker was not injured in the collision.  Contreras was transported to an area hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
