Update: Single-Vehicle Collision in Bethesda Now Fatal

Detectives with the Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) continue to investigate a now fatal single-vehicle collision that occurred in Bethesda on December 5.  The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, Audrey Sloope Bell, age 93, of the 8000 block of Whittier Boulevard, succumbed to her injuries this morning.

On Monday, December 5 at approximately 9:04 a.m., 2nd District officers and Fire and Rescue personnel responded to 8015 Whittier Boulevard for the report of a serious collision.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that a 2003 Buick Century, that was being driven by Bell, was making a left turn from eastbound Whittier Court onto northbound Whittier Boulevard, when for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree that was located in front of 8015 Whittier Boulevard.  After striking the tree, the Buick then rolled onto its driver’s side.   Bell was transported to an area hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
