Three Suspects Charged with Robbery Related to Recent Series of 7-Eleven ATM Thefts

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, May 8, 2019

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division have arrested and charged Deandre N. Jackson, age 27, of the 10500 block of Louisville Lane in Upper Marlboro, Omar Barnes, age 28, of the 2300 block of Good Hope Court in Southeast, Washington, D.C., and Janarro R. Hewett, age 27 of an unconfirmed address, with robbery offenses related to a recent series of thefts of Automated Teller Machines (ATM) from 7-Eleven stores in Montgomery County.

On April 30, at approximately 3:09 a.m., two suspects wearing masks entered the 7-Eleven store located at 15539 New Hampshire Avenue in Cloverly, and forced employees to the rear of the store.  A third suspect drove a pick-up truck through the store’s front window. The suspects loaded the ATM into the bed of the pick-up truck and the three suspects fled the area in the truck.

On May 2, at approximately 3:10 a.m., two suspects wearing masks entered the 7-11 Store located at 12257 Tech Road in the Fairland area and forced employees to the floor.  A third suspect drove a red pick-up truck through the store’s front window. The suspects loaded the ATM into the bed of the pick-up truck and the three suspects fled the area in the truck.  During the investigation, it was learned that after this robbery, the suspects parked the pick-up truck in a nearby residential neighborhood and offloaded the ATM into a white van which had been parked in the neighborhood.  The suspects then left the area in the van, leaving the pick-up truck abandoned in the neighborhood.

Yesterday morning (Tuesday, May 7), at approximately 3:50, Montgomery County Police officers in the area of the 7-Eleven convenience store located at 11303 Lockwood Drive in White Oak, observed a white van and a blue pick-up truck drive through the parking lot of the 7-Eleven.  Both vehicles drove out of the parking lot and entered a nearby residential neighborhood.  A few minutes later, officers observed the pick-up truck return to the parking lot of the 7-Eleven.  Officers observed two suspects, wearing masks, exit the truck, enter the 7-Eleven, and confront employees who were working inside the store.  The suspect driving the pick-up truck then backed the truck over a curb and positioned the truck as if in preparation to drive the truck through the store’s front window.  Upon seeing this activity, officers immediately converged on the 7-Eleven.

Upon seeing the police, the two suspects inside of the 7-Eleven fled from the store on foot but were quickly apprehended by responding officers.  These suspects were subsequently identified as Barnes and Jackson. Also, upon seeing the police, the driver of the pick-up truck fled from the parking lot in the truck.  Officers pursued the pick-up truck on to the outer loop of the Capital Beltway (I-495) until the truck was involved in a traffic collision on I-495 at Kenilworth Avenue in Prince George’s County.  After the collision, the driver of the truck attempted to flee the area on foot, but he was quickly apprehended by responding officers.  This suspect was subsequently identified as Hewett.  Further investigation by detectives determined that the white van and the blue pick-up truck had been recently reported as stolen in Prince George’s County.

Jackson, Barnes, and Hewett were each charged with two counts of robbery.  One each for the April 30 ATM-related robbery and one for the May 2 ATM-related robbery  They were also each charged with one count of attempted robbery related to yesterday morning’s attempted 7-11 robbery.

All three suspects are currently being held without bond.

This remains an active and ongoing investigation.  Detectives are working to determine if these three suspects were involved in any prior robberies in the area where ATM’s were targeted.
